New phones take excellent photos, especially in good light. But compact cameras still have their own strengths, and they're becoming popular again with people who want photos that "look like a camera took them".
What compact cameras do better than phones
- Real optical zoom — superzoom models bring distant subjects in more sharply than cropping on a phone
- Larger sensors in premium models — better detail and low-light performance
- Physical buttons and a separate battery — shoot for a long time without draining your phone
Three main groups
- Point-and-shoot — small, light, easy to use, affordable
- Premium compact — larger sensor, brighter lens, higher price
- Superzoom — very long zoom, great for travel and wildlife
On koomza's camera page, use the filter "Type → Compact (pocket)" to see only this group. The type follows the categories set by the shop (currently BIG Camera).
